IBM Power 10

On July 12, 2022 IBM announced an enhanced range of Power10 server models with the introduction of mid-range and scale-out systems.

The expanded portfolio is built around the next-generation IBM Power10 processor and is designed to help clients respond faster to rapidly changing business demands.

With twice the number of cores and memory bandwidth than previous Power generations, these new servers join the Power10 E1080 server which was introduced back in September 2021.

New 1- or 2-socket scale-out servers include the entry-level Power S1014, as well as S1022, and S1024 options, bringing enterprise capabilities to remote-office/branch office environments.

Now businesses can deliver flexible and secured infrastructure for hybrid cloud environments to modernize applications with Red Hat OpenShift and automate IT operations and improve productivity.

Power10 systems are designed to support hybrid cloud adoption and supports three operating environments – IBM i, AIX and Linux — with the same security, availability, and scalability features.

This is an opportunity for businesses to move their transactional and analytical workloads to a fully open source platform with Linux on Power10 providing a highly effective platform for running containerized workloads like cloud-native microservices with Red Hat OpenShift.

Use cases to take advantage of IBM Power10 servers include:

  • consolidating Oracle workloads on fewer servers and cores with lower software licensing costs
  • faster provisioning, affordable scaling and maximum uptime for SAP HANA workloads
  • more efficient AI inferencing by building and running AI models on the same system as the data.

IBM also announced the Power10 Midrange E1050, delivering record-setting 4-socket compute, Java, and ERP performance capabilities.
