Our client faced several issues with some of its legacy IBM platforms reaching end of support.
Downtime was increasing and there were few in-house skilled resources.
The company also wanted to explore options that would allow it to reduce data center costs by moving to a hosted model.
One possibility was to simply relocate its existing systems to data centers operating by a third-party hosting provider.
While this approach would address the data center footprint, the legacy issues would still have to be resolved through costly upgrades.
Our client also needed to relieve the pressure on in-house IT staff that did not have the skills to effectively manage, operate and secure IBM Power Systems.
SOLUTION
As an alternative to a ‘lift and shift’ of existing systems, Tectrade presented the company with the advantages of migrating to a cloud-based IaaS and DRaaS solution.
It would improve performance and availability – and was 40% more cost-effective over two years.
The Tectrade PowerCloud provides IaaS capacity for six IBM i LPARs and two AIX LPARs together with 22TB of storage.
High availability and DRaaS are provided by real-time replication between two separate sites.
Tectrade also provides a 24×7 service desk as well as a suite of monitoring and managed services to identify and resolve any incidents or changes.
